FLIR / Raymarine
Overview
Raymarine develops advanced marine electronics, including multifunction displays, radar, sonar, and navigation systems, for recreational boating and commercial maritime applications.
I joined the team as the design lead for multiple marine-focused products, spanning multi-function display interfaces, mobile apps and web. My role required understanding and balancing clarity, safety, and aesthetics for environments where intuitive design is critical.
Key Projects:
DockSense: Assisted in the evolution for Raymarine's intuitive visual interfaces for sensor-based docking systems, delivering vehicle-like camera experiences tailored for marine environments, using automotive design principles to create high-contrast, crystal-clear MFD screens for open-sea use.
Fishidy: Redesigned a web and mobile fishing analytics platform with map-based data and optimised user flows, transforming a data-heavy product into a streamlined and visually coherent app.
Digital Switching: Assisted in the shift from physical marine controls, bilge pumps, rotary dials, rudder control etc, to fully digital interfaces on Raymarine’s MFDs. Designed a scalable, touch-optimised design system covering components for hundreds of individual vessel operations. Built to spec prioritising clarity, safety, and responsiveness in demanding high contrast marine environments. Enabled modern, intelligent control experiences to replace legacy mechanical workflows across diverse vessel types.
